Police investigating a hit and run which saw a man taken to hospital with “serious injuries” have made an arrest.

A 22-year-old pedestrian was struck outside the Old Vicarage on Groes Lwyd, just off Dundonald Avenue in Abergele shortly before 10pm on Saturday April 7.

According to police, the driver of the car did not stop at the scene.

The injured man was taken to Glan Clwyd Hospital with “serious injuries” which are not believed to be life threatening.

An appeal has been launched by North Wales Police to anyone who witnessed the incident.

Sgt Nicola Grimes Williams from the Road Policing Unit, said: “We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision last night to contact us and assist with our investigation.

“Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact the Road Policing Unit on 101 reference W044072.”

Today, officers and forensics teams were out in force carrying out an investigation following the incident.

They could be seen placing evidence markers on the road surface and later using vehicles to carry out skid tests on the road surface to establish the speed and impact of the accident.

Officers left the scene shortly after 2pm.

Superintendent Nick Evans of North Wales Police said: “A man struck by a vehicle at the location last night was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

“The offending vehicle failed to stop at the scene."

He added a suspect had been arrested and a vehicle seized.

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called to a car accident on Groes Lwyd, Abergele at 21.59 last night.

“A pedestria was hit by a car.

“One ambulance was sent to the scene and an adult male was take to Glan Clwyd Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.”
