Nationals' Martinez ejected in eighth game as manager

Eight games into his managerial career, Washington's Dave Martinez was sent to the showers early for the first time.

Martinez was tossed by umpire Marty Foster in the third inning to argue the ejection of third baseman Anthony Rendon, who was thrown out for flipping his bat after being called out on strikes to end the inning.

After a lengthy rant by Martinez, Foster finally had enough and ended the rookie manager's day.

Martinez threw his cap and kicked dirt on the plate before taking his leave.

The game was scoreless at the time, and several Nationals' players had voiced displeasure at how the strike zone was being called.

Martinez, 53, is 4-3 in his first season on the job. He retired as a player in 2001.

He trails former Braves manager Bobby Cox by 160 ejections for the all-time lead.
