1. FRIDAY – GET ON YOUR FEET WITH VIVA STREETS

Harlingen is again hosting Viva Streets with National Library Week on Friday at Harlingen City Lake. The open, free events offers an Adventure 5K, bike rentals, exercised demos, food vendors, a car show, music and fun. Bring your own bike and roller blades. The event is 5:30-8:30 p.m.

2. WEDNESDAY – GET HEALTHY SUMMIT

Join us for the 1st Get Healthy RGV Health & Wellness Summit April 11 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the McAllen Convention Center. Add years to your life and life to years. This is the first community and health professional-oriented event in the RGV focused on lifestyle medicine: transforming your lifestyle to prevent and combat chronic disease.

3. THURSDAY – GEOCACHING 101

Do you like treasure hunting? Would you like to do it in a modern style? Come and join us for a fun and exciting way to find a geocache in the park. Bring a GPS unit or a smartphone. The park has GPS units for rent. The event is Thursday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Estero Llano Grande State Park, 3301 S. International Blvd. in Weslaco.

4. SATURDAY – DISCOVERY DAY: EARTH ROCKS

You’ll be amazed to see just how many different types of rocks can be found in the Earth as you watch the presentation of Quinta Mazatlan’s world rock collection. Learn the difference between rocks and minerals, minerals and metals, and then enjoy “busting” a rock and painting a rock. Or go on a “treasure hunt” to find the hidden gemstones, 11 a.m to noon and 2-3 p.m. $3 fee (includes park admission.) All ages welcome. 600 Sunset Dr., McAllen.

5. 4. SATURDAY – HARLINGEN FARMERS MARKET

This weekly event, which runs from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at 2nd and Tyler, is a can’t miss. More than 30 vendors are there with their fruits, vegetables and more, along with live music, free samples and chef demonstrations. If you don’t make it this weekend, know it runs through mid-June.
