Wild elephant tramples man, injures one

DIBRUGARH: A man was trampled to death by a wild elephant while another was left seriously injured at Brahmajan area of Tinsukia district on Saturday morning. The deceased was identified as Debcharan Karmakar (45), a resident of Brahmajan. The injured man Bipin Karmakar has been admitted to the Digboi Civil Hospital.

The incident occurred when Bipin, Debcharan and other locals were trying to chase a herd of wild elephants which had entered the village from the Upper Dehing reserve forest. According to witnesses, one of the elephants from the herd came charging at the duo, trampling Debcharan to death. The body of the victim was later handed over to family members after postmortem.


Forest officer of Doomdooma forest division KZ Zaman Jinnah and other officials rushed to the area following the incident. tnn
