As close to 11 lakh candidates are appearing for the JEE Mains examinations this year (File)
The CBSE is conducting the JEE Mains Examinations in 112 cities across the country and abroad. The first paper (offline mode) has just been concluded. The students reacted with pleasure as the paper was easy. As compared to last year, paper was relatively tougher, students reacted, saying Physics paper was quite tough and Mathematics paper a bit lengthy.
The online examination was held on April 15 and April 16, 2018. The sixth edition of JEE (Main) 2018 offline exam was held for approximately 10,43,739 candidates registered for admission to undergraduate engineering programmes in NITs, IITs and other centrally funded technical institutes etc

Clearing the JEE mains and advanced papers, the candidates can get through in Bachelor of Technology (BTech), Bachelor of Engineering (BE) and Bachelor of Architecture (BArch) courses. The exam is held in two stages— JEE main which is conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and JEE advanced which is held by different IITs every year.
Last year, around 10.2 lakh candidates had registered for the examinations. The examinations were conducted at 1781 centres across the country on April 2, 2017.

The official answer keys, images of response sheets (OMR) sheets of pen-paper mode examinations (offline examinations) and online mode examination are likely to be published on the official website from April 24 to April 27, 2018. They found similarities between the weightage of marks in this paper, and the 12th standard syllabus. “Expected cut off is 80( -5%) marks out of 360. The paper was moderate and based on NCERT. Chemistry was the most lengthy. Organic chemistry was found more difficult, Physical chemistry was more numerical based, whereas, Inorganic chemistry was easy. Surprisingly, Mathematics was the easiest paper amongst the three. Most questions were calculative. There were 10 questions asked from the 12th standard syllabus and 20 questions from the 11th standard syllabus. This section had 3 difficult questions, 14 moderate questions and 13 easy questions."

This section was lengthy in comparison to the other sections. There were 14 questions asked from the 12th standard syllabus and 16 questions from the 11th standard syllabus. This section had 3 difficult questions, 17 moderate questions, and 10 easy questions. Initial assessment suspects students may find 2 options of Q.63 Set B could be correct, however we think the answer should be option 1. This was a question from Alcohol phenol and ether, on a reaction of Phenol.

Surprisingly, Physics was the toughest paper amongst the three. The questions were a mix of theory based and calculative. This section was not lengthy. There were 17 questions asked from the 12th standard syllabus and 13 questions from the 11th standard syllabus. This section had 4 difficult questions, 20 moderate questions and 6 easy questions. Initial assessment suspects none of the options of Q.6 Set B were correct. This was the question based on Pulley where minimum mass was required.
Some students also demanded that there should be code of conduct for invigilators as some talk during the exam which irritate many aspirants.
Venky Ramesh from FIITJEE, Chennai said that JEE Main 2018 in comparison to previous year, the exam was tough this year. I think the cut-off will go down this year.

Distribution of seats is as follows: IIT Kharagpur (113), IIT Dhanbad (95), IIT Kanpur (79), IIT BHU (76), IIT Roorkee (68), IIT Delhi (59), IIT Bombay (58) and IIT Guwahati (57).

IITs have decided to collectively 779 seats over and above the normal intake exclusively for female engineering candidates this year to improve the poor gender ratio in B Tech courses

Some candidates have complained that they have to stand fours hours outside the exam hall before the start of JEE Mains.
As per Aakash Institute, overall the JEE (Main) – 2018 was slightly on the difficult side. A few questions in the paper were straightforward and could be solved by a student who has been preparing sincerely for the exam. But a large number of questions required lengthy solutions. A few questions were difficult which will play a crucial role to get top scores.
JEE Mains 2018 was organised for 6,46,814 boys, 2,66,745 girls and three transgenders.

Last year, the JEE main cut-off registered was at 81, while the cut-offs for the OBC, SC and ST categories was at 49, 32 and 27 respectively.
You are prohibited from carrying electronic devices like cell phone, calculator, electronic watch etc inside the examination hall. Materials like log table, book, notebook, log tables, printed or written material etc. are also not allowed. The candidature of anyone found carrying these items will be cancelled.
The cut off for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) 2017 is expected to be between 95 to 105 this year, according to experts.

In Maths section, there were 16 questions from Class 11 or first year while 14 questions from Class 12 or second year. Two problems were tricky and experts believe even best of students cannot complete the Maths section
In the Chemistry section, there are 16 questions from class 11 or first year while from the second year or class 12, there are 14 questions. There were 12 questions from inorganic chemistry, 8 from physical chemistry and 10 from organic chemistry. There are 6 numerical problems and one graphical problem. As expected, the question paper has been framed giving equal weightage of all branches of Chemistry.
In the Physics section, there are 14 questions from class 11 or first year while 16 questions from class 12 or second year. There are three tricky questions of HOT type. There are nine easy questions, 11 moderate ones and 7 questions are time consuming. Paper appears lenghty and difficult to finish in one hour.
As per BASE institute, Physics was difficult in the overall comparison. It was lenghty as well. Four questions are modified version of those that appeared in the previous years JEE Advanced. This time, equal weightage has been given to first and second year topics

The online examinations will take place on April 15 and April 16, 2018. The Board will use different sets of question papers on the different dates of examination
JEE Mains 2018: How to challenge answer keys?
The candidates, who are not satisfied with the responses may challenge by filing online application form paying a sum of Rs 1000 per questions till April 27, 2018. The fee can also be paid by credit/ debit card and is non-refundable.
