CHEROKEE — The Southeast Lancers softball team picked up their fifth and sixth straight wins of the season after sweeping visiting Chetopa in Thursday’s doubleheader, 7-6 and 9-1.
Chetopa opened up a 5-2 lead on the Lancers after four innings, but Southeast bounced back with five runs scored in the fifth frame.
McKenna Renn sparked the scoring in the fifth with a two-run RBI double. Katie Bitner tied the score at 6-6 with a two-run RBI double in the next at-bat. Bitner would cross home plate on a passed ball to put the Lancers up 7-6.
Liberty Gregory went 3-for-3 at the plate for Southeast.
Game two Southeast 9, Chetopa 1
Southeast opened up game two with six runs in the first frame.
Traci Powers opened the scoring after she crossed the plate courtesy of a Jaiden Gregory walk. The Lancers got four runs in the inning off of fielding errors by Chetopa.
Bitner’s two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth helped extend the Lancer lead. Jaiden Gregory scored the last Southeast run on a Skyler Zortz groundout.
Bitner went 3-for-4 at the plate.
