World Health Day celebrated

Awareness rallies held to mark the occasion

Awareness rallies, skits and meetings marked the World Health Day observed by various hospitals and institutions in the city on Saturday.

World Health Day is celebrated on April 7 every year to mark the anniversary of the founding of the World Health Organization (WHO).

The theme of this year’s World Health Day is ‘Universal Health Coverage: Everyone- Everywhere – 2018’.

A rally was taken out by medical and nursing students, under the auspices of Andhra Medical College (AMC) from Kali Matha temple at R.K. Beach. Some of the students of AMC presented a skit to highlight the importance of World Health Day. Dr. C.V. Rao, Vice Chancellor of Dr. N.T.R. University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada, flagged off the rally.

Dr. P.V. Sudhakar. Principal, AMC, Dr. A. Bhagyalakshmi,Vice Principal, Dr. B. Devimadhavi, Professor and H o D, Community Medicine, Dr. A. Satyanarayana, professor and H o D, Anaesthesiology, Dr. K. Sathya Varaprasad, Director of Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS), Dr. Vasundhara, in charge District Medical and Health Officer, and office bearers of IMA, Visakhapatnam, participated in the rally.

At Divisional Railway Hospital the Health Department of Waltair Division of East Coast Railway observed the day. An awareness meeting on ‘Universal health coverage, every one, everywhere’ was conducted under the guidance of the Chief Medical Superintendent B.G. Rao.

Additional Divisional Railway Manager K. Dhanunjeya Rao, who was chief guest, said the objective of observing World Health Day was to ensure that everyone everywhere was able to access quality health services.
