Coimbatore: The eight-year-old girl, who witnessed her uncle hacking her mother to death, chopping the body and setting it afire on Saturday in their house at Ranganathan Street in Uppilipalayam, is still in a state of shock. The girl has been handed over to her grandmother.
“The girl was given counselling and we have sent her with her grandmother,” a police officer said.

S Sangeetha, 29, of Ranganathan Street at Uppilipalayam near Singanallur, was hacked to death by her younger brother B Saravanakumar, 27, on Saturday around 8am. Her daughter, a student of a private school, is the main eyewitness to the murder.

According to the official, Saravanakumar used to fight with Sangeetha, who had separated from her husband two years ago, as he didn’t like her staying at the rented house.

During the inquiry, Saravanakumar, however, told police that it was his sister who first attacked him with a sickle. “In a fit of rage, he slit her throat and murdered her,” the source added.

Singanallur police are yet to recover the sickle used for the murder. The police plan to produce Saravanakumar, an MCA dropout, before a judicial magistrate court on Monday morning.TNN
