CHAMARAJANAGAR: A student from Bengaluru drowned in Yarambadi reservoir in Chamarajanagar on Saturday while trying to rescue her friend. The deceased has been identified as Nikita, a student from Banasawadi in Bengaluru.

Nikita was in Yarambadi to attend a family event. On Saturday morning, Nikita and her friends were visiting the dam. When one of her friends slipped and fell into the water, Nikita jumped in to rescue her. “Nikita didn’t know how to swim and hence, she drowned,” police said. Local fishermen rushed to the spot when Nikita’s friends screamed for help. But they could rescue only her friend.

Ramapura police, who have registered a case, handed over the body to Nikita’s family members after postmortem.
