A 45-year-old man died while his 16-year-old daughter survived with minor injuries after his bike bumped on the roadside lamp while trying to save a nilgai in Outer Delhi’s Hiranki village in Alipur area on Friday morning. Family members said the girl who was discharged after treatment has not been informed about the demise of her father.
According to police, the deceased has been identified as Ashok Kumar while his daughter, Alka, managed to survive the accident.
A senior police officer said, “The accident took place around 9.15am when the man was was on his way to drop his daughter to the Class XII board exam centre when a nilgai suddenly came in his way. While trying to save the animal, the man tried to swerve the vehicle but it hit two other nilgais.”
At the time of the accident, Ashok was wearing a helmet but due to the impact of the accident, the helmet fell apart and he sustained severe head injuries,”
Family members of Ashok said that a passerby made a call to the Police Control Room after which the father daughter were rushed to a nearby hospital where the father was declared brought dead.
The family members said that the girl, Alka, a class 12 student who had to appear for the Political Science examination was discharged after treatment.
The family members added that they are yet to tell Alka about the demise of her father.
Police on Friday said that they have registered a case under rash and negligent driving and causing death due to negligence at the Alipur police station.
