Disinvestment of DCI decried

It will create a vacuum in the dredging industry, says NCOAI

National Confederation of Officers Association of India (NCOAI) on Saturday decried the decision by the Centre to focus on disinvestment of public sector undertakings and going ahead with disinvestment of profit-making Dredging Corporation of India (DCI).

At the inaugural of a two-day national executive meeting here, Dr. P.K. Sethi, representing DCI Officers’ Association welcomed the delegates and highlighted various issues connected with regard to disinvestment of DCI and other PSUs.

He emphasised that with young and skilled human resources the disinvestment of DCI would create a vacuum in the dredging industry apart from jeopardising the careers of the young employees hitting the livelihood of their families.

The meeting recalled the sacrifice made by Venkatesh, one of the employees of DCI who committed suicide to protest against the decision of the Central Government to privatise DCI.

The NCOAI expressed its shock at the investment made by DCI in Sethu Samudram which was thrust upon DCI as a social obligation. NCOAI meeting decided to take up the matter with the Central Government.

NCOAI president Alok Roy said the erratic approach of the government had created dissatisfaction among the employees.

Confederation secretary general V.K. Tomar highlighted on efforts being made to bring all the public sectors officers association under one umbrella to strengthen NCOAI.
