CEDAR RAPIDS — Former Cedar Rapids RoughRiders player Adam Gaudette was named Friday night the 2018 winner of the Hobey Baker Award for top college hockey player.
Gaudette scored 30 goals and had 30 assists in 38 games this season as a junior for Northeastern University in Boston. Shortly after his season concluded, he signed a contract with the NHL’s Vancouver Canucks and has played in four games with them.
Gaudette played the 2014-15 season with the RoughRiders, scoring 13 goals and adding 17 assists in 50 games. He was drafted by Vancouver in the fifth round of the 2015 NHL Draft.
A Braintree, Mass., native, Gaudette was selected for the Hobey Baker over the other two finalists Ryan Donato of Harvard and Henrik Borgstrom of Denver.
He is the second former RoughRider to win the award. Andy Miele of Miami (Ohio) won it in 2011.
