BJP activists stage silent protest

BJP activists staged a silent demonstration in Sorab town on Saturday demanding stern action against those responsible for the assault on Sripad Hegde Nisrani, vice-president of party district unit and director of Shivamogga Milk Union Limited.

It may be mentioned here that Mr. Hegde had lodged a complaint with Sagar Rural police, stating that when he was in Talaguppa village on April 4 to review BJP’s preparations, some JD(S) activists, including Lokesh Galipura and Raghu, assaulted him. Lokesh Galipura and Raghu also lodged a complaint with the police alleging that they were assaulted by Mr. Hegde and his supporters.

Condemning the alleged assault, BJP activists including Pani Rajappa, Devendrappa, and M.D. Umesh, staged a silent demonstration in Sorab town. They submitted a memorandum to the Election Commission through Circle Inspector of Sorab demanding stern action against those responsible. In the memorandum, they have alleged that the JD(S) activists were intimidating their political opponents as well as voters in Sorab constituency. The BJP has also urged that, to avoid recurrence of such incidents and to ensure free and fair election, the EC should direct the local police to identify history-sheeters in Sorab constituency and extern them from the district till the election is over.

The BJP activists staged similar silent demonstrations in Talguppa and Anavatti.
