Lata Mangeshkar, who was born in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, will be the motivator for
BJP's "
Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao" initiative. The party mulls launching a series of events to mark the 81st birthday of the melody queen which will inspire the parents of the girl child.
"We see the legendary singer, Lata Ji, as a great motivator to save the girl child. With her consent we plan to organise music programmes to celebrate the melody queen's 81st birthday and to motivate the Beti Bachao drive across the country", BJP national convener of Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign, Dr Rajendra Phadke told TOI.
He said in all 88 music concerts highlighting Lata Mangeshkar's melodious songs will be held across the country of which 18 were already organised at various places. The party is planning to hold seven such concerts from May 7 to May 12 focusing the Beti Bachao theme, in Madhya Pradesh including a few in Gwalior, Bhopal, Ujjain, Indore and other divisional headquarters, he said.
"Lataji's divine voice delighted crores of people making them stress-free with music and making their minds and bodies healthy. During the concerts focusing the legendary singer, parents with single girl child or two girls will also be felicitated", said Phadke.
The 'save girl child' campaign will also be launched in 50 cities across the country. Inspirational messages on gender inequality will also be given with programmes creating awareness, said state convener of the campaign and former
Rajya Sabha member, Raghunandan Sharma.
BJP state women forum has also convened a meeting to take cause through social media. `Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' programme was launched by Prime Minister
Narendra Modi in January 2015 to deal with the issue of the distorted child sex ratio in the country.
The campaign aims at spreading awareness improve the efficiency of welfare services meant for women. The government has also enforced strict laws with stringent punishment to the violators.
