A man has been killed after he crashed into a cow on the R102 near King Shaka International Airport on Saturday, paramedics said.

IPSS spokesperson Paul Herbst said the 53-year-old man was killed and his two passengers injured after the bakkie they were travelling in knocked into a cow on the southbound lane of the R102 between the Canelands and airport intersection this morning.

"The driver sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead on the scene by IPSS paramedics, while his wife and second passenger sustained moderate injuries."

Herbst said the cow also died as a result of the collision.
