Protests continue demanding Cauvery Board

The cadre of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam staged a demonstration in front of the head post office in the city on Saturday demanding the formation of the Cauvery Management Board (CMB).

Radhakrishnan, secretary of the Salem urban district unit of the party, led the agitation. Azhagapuram S. Mohanraj, former MLA and State chairman of the presidium of the party, while highlighting the demand came down heavily against the Centre for betraying the interests of the farmers of Tamil Nadu with an eye on the Assembly elections in Karnataka.

The cadre of the Tamizhaga Vaazhvurimai Katchi staged a demonstration in front of the Indian Oveseas Bank branch at S. Kollapatti condemning the Centre for not constituting the CMB. Senthilkumar, State propaganda secretary of the party, led the agitation.

Members of MGR Amma Deepa Peravai staged a demonstration in front of the head post office at Suramangalam in the city.

Youths and students observed a day-long fast in front of the Collectorate demanding CMB.

DMDK cadre staged a demonstration in front of the BSNL office in Namakkal town on Saturday. Some of the protesters enacted mock hanging during the protest. K. Vijayan, district secretary of the party, led the agitation.

Farmers and local people under the banner Anaithu Neeretru Paasana Sangangalin Koottamaippu staged a rail roko agitation at the Mohanur Railway Station. They were led by Sella Rajamani, president of the Kottamaippu. The agitators entered the station premises and blocked the Tiruchi – Salem passenger train. The police rounded up 170 members.
