Youth, who killed minor girl, detained under Goondas Act

Youth who set on fire and killed a minor school girl at Tirumangalam on February 16, 2018, has been detained under Goondas Act.

Based on the recommendation made by the Madurai Rural Superintendent of Police, N. Manivannan, the Collector, K. Veera Raghava Rao, has ordered the detention of the accused, S. Balamurugan, a statement said.

The girl had spurned the youth’s proposal for marriage. He followed her while she was returning home from school and set her ablaze after dousing her with petrol. The youth was nabbed the next day. The girl died after battling for life for 10 days. In another case, M. Thanith and R. Malairaj of Karuppayoorani who were accused in various crimes like murder, robbery, attempt-to-murder and extortion had been detained under the Goondas Act, the statement said.

Chain snatched

Over two sovereigns of gold chain was snatched from a wowan while she was walking along with her husband N. Boomiraj at Vishal Nagar under Alanganallur police station limits on Wednesday night. Three persons who came on a motorbike threatened the couple and robbed the gold chain at knifepoint.

In another case reported under Koodal Nagar police station limits, R. Pandiarajan (29) was hacked with a machete by three unidentified persons and snatched his two sovereign gold chain on Wednesday night.

House burgled

Fifteen sovereigns of gold and 2 kg of silver were stolen from the house of N. Vaithyanathan at Naryanapuram when the family members were away between Monday and Thursday.

In another incident, ₹3,000 was burgled from CSI Grace Church at Tirunagar. The accused drilled a hole on the roof and climbed down into it with a rope. He stole money from the hundiyal.
