Ferrari’s SUV Could Be a Hybrid Too
For Ferrari enthusiasts, it’s bad enough the Italian automaker is making an SUV – and now it might be a hybrid.
Earlier this year, Ferrari CEO Sergio Marchionne confirmed an SUV is in the works and it should be arriving in either 2019 or 2020. Now, it is being reported it will likely use a hybrid powertrain as the automaker continues to embrace electrification. Speaking at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, Marchionne confirmed next hybrid will be more traditional, unlike the LaFerrari’s system which is mostly used to boost performance.
“I’ve been clear on the topic that we’re going to embrace electrification – we are going to make it the mainstay of our offerings,” said Marchionne. “In the case of the next hybrid, I think it needs to become more traditional, in a sense, because it needs to fulfill a different role.”

The company is currently testing mules and recently a silent Ferrari 488 was spied testing at Ferrari’s Fiorano test facility. It’s unclear if the hybrid powertrain currently being tested in the Ferrari 488 will be the one used in the upcoming SUV.
For the most part, little has been confirmed about Ferrari’s SUV, but Marchionne is promising it will be the fastest SUV on the market. Sources say its styling will resemble the company’s front-engined models, but riding on a taller, larger chassis.
