The purity and innocence of Sufism was brilliantly showcased through the Kathak movements before the Bhopaliytes. V Anuradha Singh, a renowned kathak exponent of the city gave a scintillating performance of ‘Sufiyana Raqs’ here on Friday at Shaheed Bhavan Auditorium.
V Anuradha Singh, who is known for the new fundamental experiments in Kathak. With 1500 chakras on Sufi music, Anuradha Singh enthralled the audience during the performance.
The event was organized by Kirti Ballet and Performing Arts, Bhopal. Sufiyana Raqs by V Anuradha Singh was infusion of Sufism in Kathak movements. The Sufiyana Raqs is composed in sucha a way thet the rhythms of Sufi music is not broken as well as the Hindustani classical dance kathak’s beauty remains as it is. The relationship of love between man and God is beautifully depicted in Sufi Raqs.
The wordly materials and feelings does not matter when Sufism is there. The man is really close to his creator and that is the beauty of Sufism.
To begin with the performances, Singh performed Kathak on a hymn Allah Hu Allah Hu in Raga Jog.
Then she performed a kalam ‘Sanwar Tore Bina Jia’. This Kalam was presented in Raga Mudra based on Tilak Kamod and Taal Ekivee.
The best of her performances was the Kathak moves on Chhap Tilak Sab Chini. It is the Kalam of Hazrat Amir Khusro based on Tilak Kamod and Khamaj. In it, the love between a teacher and disciple i.e. of Hazrat Nizamuddin Oliya and Hazrat Amir Khusro is depicted with Sufi Raqs.
She took away the hearts when she performed on Damadam Mast Kalandar. "Damadam Mast Kalandar" written by Hazrat Shahbaz Kaldar, has shown Kaladri Ishq in this Kalam. This kalam is based on Raga Pahadi and was much appreciated by the audience.
Singh was accompanied on live music. On vocal Ustad Salim Allahwale, Shahbaz on Tabla, Zakir Hussain on Sarangi, Shahid Khan on synthesizer and Sabir on Dholak. The live music added to the mood of the performance.
