
India won their first gold of the day and their fifth overall when Punam Yadav succesfully lifted 122 kg in her third attempt. The Indian shooters, who were always favourites to win medals, started their campaign today and did not dissapoint. Manu Bhaker won gold at 10m Air Pistol while Heena Sidhu took silver. The Indian women’s hockey team then upset Olympic gold medallists England 2-1 followed by the men’s team eking out a 4-3 win over a determined Welsh side. Vikas Thakur then took bronze in Men’s 94 kg weightlifting. Finally, the women’s table tennis beat favourites Singapore to win a first-ever CWG gold.
