Sporting Clube de Goa registered a solitary-goal win over Vasco Sports Club in the Goa Professional League match played under floodlights at Duler stadium, on Saturday.

Vasco SC dominated the first session and had three scoring opportunities to take the lead. Skipper Micky Fernandes had the first look at the rival goal as he controlled a pass from Schubert Pereira and drilled a blistering strike which missed the target narrowly.

A few minutes later, Vasco striker Schubert shot weakly from inside the penalty box into the waiting hands of Sporting keeper Ozen Silva.

In the 35th minute, Vasco winger Anil Gaoncar failed to direct his shot inside the Sporting goal framework off a fine pass from Franky Oliveiro.

On crossing ends, Sporting came with renewed ideas and had three scoring chances. Cajetan Fernandes free kick was superbly fisted over the post by keeper Suresh Lamani. Minutes later, Nigerian Abiola Afuwape failed to tap the ball into the goal off a long cross at the far end by Marcus Mascarenhas.

Finally, in the 72nd minute, Flaming Oranje broke the deadlock when Marcus Mascarenhas guided the ball into the goal off a perfect cross from Peter Carvalho, 1-0.
