BENGALURU: A 35-year-old auditor committed suicide by jumping from the balcony on the 11th floor of his apartment in Hegde Nagar near Kothanur on Thursday night. The exact reason, which led him to take this extreme step, is yet to be ascertained. The deceased has been identified as Kumar Bhagavath, a native of Ankola in Uttara Kannada district. He was employed in a private accountancy firm in the city and was living at Vajram Apartment, along with his wife and two-year-old daughter.

A police officer said that the incident took place after 11.30 pm when his wife and child had gone to bed. Kumar’s wife, Darsha, told the police that he was watching television when she and her daughter went to sleep early as the latter was not well. The incident came to light only at around 5.30 am when security guards found Kumar lying in a pool of blood and alerted the Kothanur police. The family was residing on the 11th floor and Kumar jumped from the balcony attached to the bedroom.

“Darsha further told police that they had gone to her father’s house on Lalbagh Road on Thursday evening and after having dinner, they had returned to their apartment. There were no issues between the couple. However, he had seemed upset for the past few days but did not share anything with his family or friends. We are investigating the case from all angles as we have not found any CCTV camera footage from the premises. We are yet to question Darsha to ascertain if he had any personal problems,” the officer said.
Kothanur police shifted the body to Ambedkar Hospital for a postmortem and the final rites were conducted on Friday evening.  The police have also taken statements from neighbours as part of the investigation.
