Unseasonal rain, accompanied by gusty winds and thunder that lashed Yadgir district from late night on Friday to Saturday morning, destroyed a huge quantum of paddy crop spread across several hundreds of acres across the district.

According to reports, several villages have lost electricity connection after electricity poles were uprooted. Trees were also uprooted in the rural areas.

A bullock was killed and two persons were injured after they were being struck by lightning in Konahalli village in Wadagera taluk. The injured have been given treatment in a local hospital.

Paddy crop on several hundred acres in Hunasagi, Surpur and Shahapur taluk was destroyed due to winds. Farmers, who were hoping for a better yield this year, have demanded immediate survey of the crop loss and compensation.

One farmer, whose crop was destroyed, said that officials from the Revenue Department did not visit the area to analyse the situation as they are engaged in election duty.
