Boy slashes classmate with blade

17-year-old Class 12 student held, sent to juvenile home

A schoolboy attacked his classmate with a blade inside their classroom after their Class 12 examinations on Friday afternoon. The boy is out of danger, said police.

The police nabbed the boy and sent him to the Government Observation Home for Juveniles, and are looking for two more who may have conspired.

According to the police, the two 17-year-olds go to a government school near Thandalam. A month ago, one of them complained to the teachers about the other bunking classes. This infuriated the latter.

“The two boys used to fight regularly. A month ago, teachers had warned them of stern action,” said a senior police officer.

On Friday, both came for their final board examinations. “There was police bandobast in the school to prevent any problems during the examination. After the examination, an argument broke out between the two students. One of the boys took out a blade used for sharpening pencils and slashed the other on the stomach.

The culprit fled to Thandalam while the victim was taken to the Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital and was later discharged.

A case was registered in the Mangadu police station.
