SYCAMORE – Metronet, an Indiana-based fiber-optic internet, TV and phone service provider, will bring a proposal to build a commercial antenna tower at 2535 Bethany Road during the Sycamore Plan Commission’s Monday meeting.

The internet service provider has been in talks with officials in DeKalb and Sycamore to expand its service to the area. To accomplish this, the company has a contract to buy a small piece of property on Bethany to build a transmission hut and a 52-foot steel antenna.

The antenna, originally designed to be 65 feet tall, is necessary for line-of-sight transmission from the broadcasting towers of commercial and public broadcasting television stations, according to Metronet officials.

The Sycamore Building and Engineering Department also reviewed the proposed location to ensure it met the requirements of the city’s Unified Development Ordinance and the city code.

A favorable recommendation to the city council is being recommended by city staff.

Also on the agenda is a proposal from Doug Olson of Franklin Development Trust to create and operate an indoor self-service storage facility within the former Brown’s County Market building at 403 E. State St.

This comes weeks after the Sycamore City Council approved amendments to the city’s Unified Development Ordinance setting definitions for indoor self-storage facilities, which were also submitted by Olson.

The Plan Commission meeting will be at 7 p.m. in the council chambers of the Sycamore Center, 308 W. State St.
