Regarding criminal defamation case filed by Minister; matter posted for May 11

A Delhi court on Saturday granted exemption from personal appearance for the day to Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and AAP leader Kumar Vishwas in a criminal defamation case filed by the Minister.

Accused in case

Mr. Vishwas is an accused in the case.

The court had on April 3 acquitted the other accused — Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and AAP leaders Raghav Chadha, Sanjay Singh, Ashutosh and Deepak Bajpai in the case after Mr. Jaitley accepted their apologies for their defamatory statements against him in connection with alleged irregularities in the DDCA.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal granted the exemption after Mr. Jaitley’s advocate moved an application, saying that he was unable to appear before the court as he was undergoing treatment.

Counsel for Mr. Vishwas also moved an application citing his prior engagements and sought exemption from appearance.

The court has accepted both of their applications and posted the matter on May 11.
