12 hospitalised after eating cake from bakery in Mandya

Eleven children and a pregnant woman were hospitalised on Thursday night after eating cakes purchased from a bakery at K.R. Pet of the district.

They were shifted to various hospitals in Mysuru and are recovering, the K.R. Pet Town police said.

The 12, from different areas of K.R. Pet town, had purchased cakes from Saraswati Bakery, at Durga Bhavan Circle, of K.R. Pet town on Thursday evening. However, they developed nausea, vomiting and giddiness immediately after eating the cakes.

Following the incident, K.R. Pet tahsildar Gurusiddaiah Hiremat and other Revenue Department officials visited the spot and sealed the bakery.

Later, based on the report, the police arrested the bakery owner, Sheriff, and registered a case against him.

According to the preliminary investigation, Sheriff has three bakeries in the town. The police and revenue officials also sealed his other two bakeries.
