Help who stole from Sena leader nabbed

Navi Mumbai: Anurag Singh, 20, who allegedly stole 86 tolas of gold and and ₹2.5 lakh in cash from the home of Shiv Sena leader Vijay Chaughule, where he worked as domestic help, has been arrested.

Police said Mr. Singh led them on a chase across several States over a week before their team caught up with him at the Indo-Nepal border, late on Friday. According to Mr. Chaughule’s complaint with Rabale police station, the theft took place on March 31 and came to light on April 1.

Senior PI Pradeep Tidaar, Rabale police station, said, “CCTV footage from Yash Paradise, the housing society where the theft took place, shows Mr Singh making off with valuables from Mr. Chaughule’s house when the latter and family members were away.They returned late at night, and discovered the theft the the next day.”

A team led by PSI Ajay Kumbhar tracked Mr. Singh across several States, including Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. “The accused’s two brothers and parents live in U.P. and are not in any financial trouble. The motive is unclear. All stolen valuables have been recovered,” Mr. Kumbhar said.

The accused has been working for Mr. Chaughule for he last three years, and stayed in his house. He has been charged under IPC section 381 (theft by servant of property in possession of master). He was produced in court on Saturday, which remanded him in police custody for five days.
