Rohini Sindhuri, Deputy Commissioner, Hassan, said the district administration has taken strict measures against violations of the Model Code of Conduct.

So far, the police have booked seven cases with regard to violations of the code. The Excise Department has conducted 120 raids and registered 55 cases with regard to illegal sale and storage of liquor in the district, according to a communiqué from the district administration issued here on Friday.

Besides the case against District Minister A. Manju, the police have booked six other cases. The first case was filed by the Arsikere Police following a report by a flying quad with regard to illegal transportation and publicity material belonging to Mahila Empowerment Party (MEP) at Mujawar Mohalla in Arsikere on March 31. The case was registered against Syed Sadat. Two cases were registered in Sakleshpur with regard to drilling borewells without obtaining prior permission. A similar case was registered in Belur on April 1. The Hassan Extension Police have registered two cases against Hassan taluk JD(S) president Dyave Gowda and 70 other vehicle owners for using vehicles for the election campaign without prior permission on April 3.

The Excise Department officials conducted 120 raids since the Code came into effect and booked 55 cases. The sale of liquor in the district has been monitored considering the sales reported in April last year.

The Excise Department officers have been asked to keep a vigil on the production and sale of liquor in the district, the officer said.
