Several people are feared dead after a car drove into a group of people in the western German city of Muenster on Saturday, Reuters reported quoting Spiegel Online. Police said the driver of that car has killed himself.

There have been reports of multiple injuries. However, it was not clear whether the incident was an attack. Police have cordoned off the area.

“There are several dead, probably including the suspect,” a police spokeswoman was quoted as saying by Reuters. A security source said, “The scenario is such that an attack cannot be ruled out.”

Regional police service on Twitter said that residents should “avoid the area near the Kiepenkerl pub” where a large-scale police operation is underway. Kiepenkerl is a popular bar in the city’s historic downtown area.” They also urged people to avoid “speculation” about the incident.

The incident evoked memories of a December 2016 truck attack in Berlin that killed 12 people. Anis Amri, a failed Tunisian asylum seeker with Islamist links, hijacked a truck on Dec. 19, 2016, killed the driver and then ploughed it into a crowded marketplace, killing 11 more people and injuring dozens of others.

This is a developing story. More details are awaited.
