Assembly seeks special session of Parliament

‘Centre may now act vindictively’

The Assembly passed a resolution on Friday demanding that the Central government convene a special session of Parliament to discuss the implementation of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, Special Category Status (SCS), and assurances given in the Rajya Sabha. All the four MLAs of the BJP were not present at that time.

Moving the resolution, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said the BJP-led NDA government has maintained that it gave lakhs of crores of rupees towards the special assistance measure but was not bothered to make an introspection in spite of the protests that erupted in the State.

The Central government would henceforth play its ‘distinct brand of politics of vengeance’ by instigating the parties under its control to attack the TDP and not cooperating with the State government. Besides, there was the danger of the 15th Finance Commission discriminating against the progressive States that include Andhra Pradesh he observed.

Mr. Naidu said the TDP’s no-confidence motion (NCM) evoked a good response from all parties, including some constituents of the NDA, but the BJP did not budge from its stand.

By discharging its obligation to establish Cauvery Water Management Board as per the Supreme Court directions, the Central government could placate the AIADMK MPs thereby pave the way for a discussion on the NCM but it was reluctant to do that due to the political implications of such a move.

Attempts by TDP MPs to get the no-trust move debated failed as the Speaker kept adjourning the Lok Sabha. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has clearly broken his promises. and he was reluctant to pay attention to the need to undo the injustice done to A.P.

Mr. Naidu said the YSRCP has just lifted the curtains on its MPs’ resignation drama but their counterparts in the TDP would not flee from New Delhi by putting in their papers as it would deprive them of the opportunity to fight it out in Parliament.

All-party meet

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister called yet another meeting of political parties and other stakeholders on Saturday (April 7) to discuss the course of action on the bifurcation issues.
