PITTSBURG — St Mary’s-Colgan baseball dropped both games in their doubleheader against Baxter Springs on Thursday, losing 12-2 and 9-4. In the softball doubleheader St. Mary’s Colgan was swept by Baxter Springs 10-8 and 3-1.

Colgan struggled to contain Baxter Springs in the opening game, allowing them to score 10 runs in the fifth frame.

Cade Simmons went 2-for-2 at the plate for the Panthers.

The Panthers opened game two with three runs in the first, including a two-run RBI double by Logan Lindsey to go up 3-0.

Baxter Springs responded with a three-run first to tie the score, and tacked on a run in the second and four in the third to cruise to victory.

Panther girls drop two

Baxter Springs built a 7-1 lead after four innings in the opener, but the Panthers bounced back with four runs in the fifth.

Olivia Brynds opened up the scoring in the fifth with a RBI single to first base. Kaitlin Crossland would steal home later in the inning, and Delaney Cedeno’s two run RBI single brought the Panthers to within one, 7-6.

Baxter Springs scored three runs in the bottom of the frame, and only allowed two Panthers runs in the final two innings to secure the win.

Brynds went 3-for-5 at the plate with three RBIs. Crossland and Annie Snow had two hits each.

In game two Crossland kept the game close from the mound, allowing only three runs in six innings, but the Panthers were unable to claw together enough runs. Crossland allowed five hits and struck out five.

Kate Randell and Snow had two hits each for Colgan. Malia Orender was responsible for the one run batted in.
