HC notice to ED on Choksi’s plea

The Delhi High Court on Friday issued notice to the Enforcement Directorate on a plea by Gitanjali Gems Ltd., promoted by absconding diamantaire Mehul Choksi, seeking to quash the seizure of its moveable properties in connection with the PNB fraud case.

A Bench of Justices S. Muralidhar and I.S. Mehta sought the ED’s response on the plea challenging the alleged illegal seizure of documents and articles of Gitanjali Gems Ltd. The court posted the case for hearing on April 11, when it will also hear a similar plea by Nirav Modi’s Firestar Diamond International Ltd.

Gitanjali has described the action of the ED as not in accordance with the object and purpose of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
