Cypriot Marios Georgiou edged out Scot Frank Baines and Australian Michael Mercieca for third place and a bronze medal.

Australian 100m Freestyle heats

Swimming: Jack Cartwright topped his 100m Freestyle heat, posting a 48.85 ahead of South African Chad Le Clos, who clocked in at 49.17, despite an impressive reaction time.

"I just had to get to the semi. Win the heat - that was the main goal," Cartwright said between heaving breaths following the race.

Cameron McEvoy wasn't as flash in the following heat, finishing third in 49.20 behind Matthew Abeysinghe of Sri Lanka (49.11) and Yuri Kisil of Canada (49.06).

Kyle Chalmers appeared in the following heat, overcoming a slower start to post a 48.81 - edging out Dylan Carter of Trinidad and Tobago (48.96), despite his lightning quick reaction.

It was all down to the touch - Chalmers somehow able to make up ground and put himself in a position to reach out before the rest.

Great racing - the 19-year-old will be bringing results in the green and gold for a while to come, I think.

Hello and welcome

Hello and welcome to day three of our live coverage of the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Much of the focus has been on the pool this morning, and the blog comes online at just the right time as the Australian male contingent hit the water for their 100m Freestyle heats.

Will be interesting to see the sorts of times they can muster up ahead of the big race tomorrow.
