40% of G’gram police bike fleet out of order

The Gurugram police are not only short in staff, they are also facing a huge shortage of vehicles for patrolling. Around 40% its 'Bike Fleet' has become obsolete and outdated. One could see old bikes parked in respective traffic police zones.

The Gurugram police have 208 bikes for patrolling but around 40 % rider bikes are not in working condition even though around 15 bikes of the department are more than 15 years old and 10% bikes have completed their time period as per the Haryana motor vehicle rules.

Apart from this 12 police control room (PCRs) vehicles are also not in working condition. However, the Haryana Director General of Police (DGP) B S Sandhu said, “New bikes will soon be purchased and old bikes and other vehicles will be repaired soon”.

Recently the city police got around 60 bikes under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme. But only a few bikes are being used for the patrolling.

According to department sources, most of the police personnel avoid using bikes and also they do not want to maintain the government vehicles. “The reason behind the pathetic conditions of vehicles are as their driver doesn't check fuel and even don't want to clean the vehicles,” a senior police official, said.

Most of the PCR vans have a problem with poor quality clutch plates and gearbox issues. Meanwhile, many bikes standing in the police line are even not used by the cops.

As of now, the department has 208 bikes in which only 128 bikes are in working conditions and 80 bikes are in a pathetic state. Apart from this, the department has 144 PCRs in which 63 Gypsy, 26 Sumo, 21 Bolero and 34 Tavera. In which 12 PCRs are also not in working conditions.

According to sources, recently a review meeting was conducted to overcome this problem. Following the meeting, strict instructions have been issued by the senior officers regarding the conditions of the vehicle. A detail report in this regard from all three zones had been discussed”, they added.
