BENGALURU: The police are now looking for the mystery man, who threw a garland at Congress president Rahul Gandhi, during his visit to Tumakuru on April 4 by treating it as a security breach.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Central Range B Dayananda told TOI that he had asked the Tumakuru SP to trace the person, his background and the purpose of him throwing the garland at Rahul.

In the video, which has gone viral, Rahul is seen travelling in an open bus waving out to people on the streets of Tumakuru. He was there to meet Siddaganga mutt seer Shivakumar Swamiji, who turned 111 years on April 1.

As the bus moves with Rahul atop, a person whose face cannot be seen in the crowd is bundling a garland and the next moment it lands on the AICC president ’s neck. A stunned Rahul, who is looking ahead turns towards the direction from where the garland was flung.

The Special Protection Group has also asked the state police to trace the unidentified person.
