Saturday Night Takeaway: Stephen Mulhern slammed over American accent 'So irritating'
SATURDAY NIGHT TAKEAWAY presenter Stephen Mulhern adopted an American accent for his now infamous segment In For A Penny, In For A Grand but it didn’t go down too well with viewers at home.
The ITV presenter ditched his British accent as Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway finale was broadcast live from Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida.
Stephen adopted his show for an American audience as he wandered around the theme park begging tourists to take part.
Many claimed they were too busy to participate as they did not recognise the presenter.
However, two families decided to take part and walked away with a prize of $1000.
But while Stephen hosted his segment, he appeared to have adopted an American accent.
And viewers were not impressed with his decision, which left many reaching for the remote.
Taking to Twitter comment on Stephen’s accent, one fan of the show wrote: “Stephen's American accent is the most irritating thing ever I want to turn off #SaturdayNightTakeaway.”
Another added: “I thought Stephen Mulhern was annoying anyway... But his American accent is even more annoying.”
“Hate to say it but #SaturdayNightTakeaway is mega cringe Stephen ... just no you make me cringe hard!! #sobad,” a third continued.
However, some approved, with one tweeting: “I can’t stop laughing at Stephen’s american accent I mean he’s good tho but still funny #SaturdayNightTakeaway.”

Stephen's American accent is the most irritating thing
Following the segment, the show’s host Dec Donnelly had some very exciting news for Stephen.
After weeks of begging for the Geordie star to ask ITV if they would commission In For A Penny, In For A Grand as a spin-off show, Dec finally revealed he’d spoken to bosses about the idea.
As they chatted on stage, the 42-year-old’s phone began to rang and he revealed it was the producers.
Leaving Stephen hanging, he refused to give away any clues as to what they had decided.
He eventually announced Stephen Mulhern would be getting his own show.

Meanwhile, Dec stunned viewers as he opened the live episode with a musical number.
He performed Everybody Needs Somebody by the Blues Brothers to start the final instalment.
But viewers were left very distracted by his choice of attire.
Many were quick to note they couldn’t keep their eyes off his white trousers.
Saturday Night Takeaway is available to watch on the ITV Hub now.
