AGRA: Activists of Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha,
Aligarh, have threatened to tonsure their heads and stage protests in Aligarh’s Ramleela ground if the union government fails to withdraw the review petition filed by it in the apex court against its order on the SC/ST Act.
In a letter, which they claim to have written in their blood, to PM
Narendra Modi, the activists have threatened to march and stage a protest at Ramlila Maidan.
In its March 20 ruling, the apex court had said public servants can't be prosecuted without the approval of the appointing authority, and private citizens too should be arrested only after an inquiry under the law.
It further ruled that preliminary inquiry in a case under the Act would be conducted by the Deputy Superintendent of Police to ensure the allegations are not frivolous. The amendment in the law was a bid to protect honest public servants discharging bona fide duties from being blackmailed with false cases under the Act. The decision however has been termed as a "dilution"'of the Act by various Dalit Organisations.
Talking to media, Ashok Pandey, spokesperson of Hindu Mahasabha, Aligarh, said that their organisation welcomes the
SC decision but unfortunately the Centre had filed a review petition in the case, which was not needed. He said, “We have demanded from the PM to withdraw the review petition from the court and if they fail to do so then it will be presumed that the
BJP government has taken a caste appeasement policy”.
“If they don’t consider our demand then all HM activists will oppose it and tonsure their heads on April 10,” he said.
