V. Nagaraj consumed poison during a media conference

The Vidhana Soudha police on Saturday filed a case of ‘attempted suicide’ against former Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) councillor V. Nagaraj , a day after he consumed poison during a media conference at the Bengaluru Press Club.

According to the police, they have filed a suo motu case against Nagaraj, who is out of danger. However, they are yet to record his statement.

Nagaraj, who vowed to stand for elections from the Govindarajnagar Assembly constituency, had consumed insecticide after accusing 83 people, including politicians, councillors, policemen and others, of harassing him and issuing life threats.

The history sheeter had recently been arrested and later released on bail after demonetised notes worth ₹14.80 crore were found in his premises. He is named in 47 cases.
