Anna Nagar-based dentist collects and distributes free textbooks

Dr. Arun, director of The Smile Center in Anna Nagar, has started an initiative to collect used school and college textbooks and donate them to economically-backward students, organisations, orphanages and to anyone who may needs them.

“In one week since the initiative was launched, we have received more than 3,000 books. Currently, we have a stock of school textbooks of all grades, question banks, ICSC, engineering and medical textbooks, commerce and accounts books,” says Arun, who is also a professor at Saveetha Dental College.

Volunteers from all quarters are supporting the cause.

R. Kishore, a student of Hindu College, says, “During my free time, I help at the centre by going to the houses of people who would like to donate books. There was a time when I could not afford my college fees; a few social service workers helped me out. This initiative is a small way to help other students like me who are in need.”
