Two more BSP leaders held in U.P.

Days after it arrested former Hastinapur BSP MLA Yogesh Verma in Meerut, the police in western Uttar Pradesh have now arrested two more senior functionaries of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).

Muzaffarnagar district BSP president Kamal Gautam, and Manish, son of Dharmpal Singh, former BSP MLA from Hapur, were arrested in Delhi on Thursday on charges of inciting and indulging in violence during the Bharat Bandh on April 2.

Muzaffarnagar Senior Superintendent of Police Anant Dev Tiwari told The Hindu, β€œThe initial probe showed call records, video and pictures which substantiated that the BSP leaders had a role to play in inciting the protesters. The police are further probing the extent of their involvement.” The BSP leadership alleged that the BJP government was framing it on false cases.
