Chinnabathina Mytri Tejaswi, the 27-year-old software engineer who died in a road accident, gave a new lease of life to at least six persons in various cities. She and her brother were riding a bike on Tuesday night which was hit by a vehicle driven by a drunk police constable,

The doctors from the NRI Medical College, who checked the condition of Tejaswi on Thursday, harvested the organs and sent them to hospitals in various cities.

The heart was sent to the Global Hospital in Chennai and the liver to the Apollo Hospital in Visakhapatnam while one kidney each was handed over to the Vijaya Hospital in Vijayawada and the Narayana Hospital in Nellore. The corneas were sent to the L.V. Prasad Eye Institute in the city. The organs were transported in a green channel to the airport in Gannavaram.

It is learnt that the deeply shocked family members initially refused to agree to organ donation.

However, doctors and a pastor close to the family convinced them. In fact, Tejaswi took part in many organ donation awareness campaigns.

The city police, who are investigating, extended all support to the family. Commissioner of Police D. Gautam Sawang visited the hospital and consoled the family members.

He spoke to Tejaswi’s brother Micheal Ravi Teja who survived the accident and the doctors at the Metrocity hospital.
