Elon Musk: Watch 'Do You Trust This Computer?' Documentary Before Artificial Intelligence Takes Over

Early Friday morning, Elon Musk tweeted an ominous Mary Shelley quote from the book Frankenstein, “You are my creator, but I am your master.

Shelley’s quote was written more than 200 years ago, before even the most basic computers existed. While it was about a monster created by Doctor Frankenstein, the line lends itself well to the debate over artificial intelligence.

Musk tweeted the quote after a series of other tweets about a new documentary on AI called Do You Trust This Computer? The Tesla and SpaceX CEO and founder is also featured in the film in which he discusses the near future of AI and the impact he thinks it might have on humanity.

The film premiered Thursday evening and is available to stream until Sunday evening for free. The documentary, directed by Chris Paine, is less than 90 minutes long and is packed full of AI experts. Musk was among the experts in the medical, defense and educational fields who spoke about the way AI currently works and will likely affect their fields in the future.

The experts warn about the ways AI could make humans obsolete or even eliminate the human race. Musk has cautioned about the reality that AI could end the human race if regulations and precautions aren’t put in place now.

Nany of the experts suggest that the path forward involves finding a way to work with the AI rather than against it. This is the goal of Musk's company, Neuralink.

“I think it’s incredibly important that AI not be other, it must be us. And I could be wrong about what I’m saying, I’m certainly open to ideas if anybody can suggest a path that’s better. But I think we’re either going to have to either merge with AI or be left behind,” Musk said at the end of the documentary.
