Deputy Speaker of Tami Nadu Legislative Assembly Pollachi Jayaraman has been of the opinion that there was no necessity for AIADMK Members of Parliament to resign on the Cauvery Management Board (CMB) issue.

“What objective can be achieved through resignations? Only when the MPs are present on the floor of the house, they could fight for the speedy constitution of CMB by pressurising the Central Government,”, he told The Hindu on the sidelines of a fast observed by the AIADMK party here on Tuesday to condemn the delay occurring in the formation of the CMB.

He sounded optimistic that the State Government would ensure the expeditious setting up of the CMB through its sustained efforts. On the people’s struggle against the Sterlite Copper unit at Thoothukudi and accusations of stringent interventions from government machinery, Mr. Jayaraman said the unit started functioning during the DMK regime in the latter half of 1990s.
