Naman Tanwar advanced to the heavyweight (91kg) quarter-finals of the boxing competition with a fluent victory in his opening bout at the Commonwealth Games on Friday.
The Indian boxer defeated Tanzania's Haruna Mhando by a unanimous verdict.
The 19-year-old Tanwar, making his debut at the Games, is a bronze-medallist from the World Youth Championships.
He had defeated reigning Asian silver-medallist Sumit Sangwan in the trials to make the squad.
Earlier, 2010 Commonwealth Games gold medallist Manoj Kumar won his opening bout to enter the pre-quarter-finals of the welterweight 69 kg category.
