Bhubaneswar: Rain accompanied by thunder squall lashed several places in the state on Thursday. Such conditions will continue till April 13, said an
IMD forecast.
"The atmospheric conditions are favourable for a Norwester as the existing wind pattern is bringing sufficient moisture in the air. Due to the incursion of moisture in the first half of the day, rain and thunderstorms are occurring," said director of the IMD' s Bhubaneswar centre,
Sarat Chandra Sahu. Besides, a cyclonic circulation formed over
Jharkhand is also creating a favourable condition for rain and thundershowers, he added.
The IMD has also predicted thunder squall accompanied by hailstorm and gusty surface wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph at one or two places over coastal Odisha and the districts of Keonjharh, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Sundargarh, Angul, Deogarh and Dhenkanal.
In the last 24 hours that ended at 8.30 am on Thursday, Keonjhar recorded the highest rain of 33.2 mm followed by 27mm in Talcher, 19.6 mm in Angul, 15.7 mm in Paradip, 12.4 mm in Bhubaneswar and 11.8 mm in Koraput.
