A couple lay in wait for raiders after their coach company was broken into three times in a week.

Vicky and Simon Alexander, who started Vicky’s Coaches in Mochdre with just £50 in the bank three years ago, slept on one of their vehicles in the hope of catching the intruders.

They decided they’d had enough after their vehicles were damaged and alcohol that was meant to be for customers on one of their coaches was stolen.

As the pair sat in the back of one of their coaches waiting, three figures appeared.

But got more than they bargained for.

Mr Alexander, 38, said: “I jumped out and had words with them. I’m 22 stone so I think I scared them.

“We just wanted to scare them and stop them coming back. I’m not as brave as I am daft.”

Mrs Alexander, a coach driver for other businesses before setting up her own, revealed how they were “devastated” by the break-ins, which they reported to police.

She said the couple, who have two small daughters, decided enough was enough when the callous thieves set their sights her husband’s pride and joy - a vintage Leyland Tiger coach affectionately called ‘Maggie’.

They often fill it with family and friends and go for a short drive, stopping for fish and chips on the way with their children, so it felt ‘personal’ when it was damaged.

She said: “It had been a really horrendous week for us and we had to protect our business we have worked so hard to build up.

“We have worked so hard to gain a good reputation for great drivers and well kept coaches and the hard work was finally starting to pay off.

“When they damaged Maggie we decided to do something ourselves. We knew there would be no violence because of the type of people we are.

“We waited for two nights after the second attack and on the second night they came in and Simon kept them talking while I called the police.”

A spokesman for North Wales Police said two people, aged 27 and 51 were arrested for “vehicle interference” on Saturday March 31 shortly after 8pm.

He added: “Following interview both men, who are local, were charged with vehicle interference and bailed to appear before Llandudno Magistrates on May 2, 2018.”
