The notorious gangster Mandla Sunil Kumar, accused in 19 cases, who gave escort policemen the slip and escaped with two firearms on March 27, was apprehended by a special police party on Rajajinagar road in Bengaluru on April 4 night, Kadapa Superintendent of Police Babujee Attada said on Thursday. PD Act would be slapped against him, the SP said.

He tried to escape from the police party led by Kadapa DSP Shaik Masoom Basha at Tadigotla crossroads in Chintakommadinne mandal while being brought from Bengaluru by pelting stones, but the police overpowered him.

Sunil Kumar, belonging to Proddatur, had ruined the future of over 200 youth by turning them into addicts, formed gangs by keeping them under his hold and forced them to commit criminal acts in Kadapa, Kurnool and Anantapur districts, Mr. Babujee said. He has been convicted in the Narpala kidnap cases and serving prison sentence for the last two months.

Three Armed Reserve escort policemen and the gangster’s three associates were arrested and remanded on April 1, the SP said. Promising to pin down rowdy elements, he said rowdysheets would be opened and PD Act would be invoked on rowdy elements in Kadapa district.

The SP lauded the DSP and staff for nabbing him.
