LUDHIANA:
Parupkar Singh Ghuman was elected as the new president of the
District Bar Association after defeating his nearest rival Vijay B Verma by three hundred thirty eight votes on Friday.
Ghuman got 1120 votes while Verma managed 782 votes and another contender
Kanwar Harpal Singh secured 185. Thirteen voters opted for None of the above (NOTA) of the total 2100 votes cast for the post.
Bar association's sitting vice-president
Harjot Singh Harikay defeated his nearest rival Gurdeep Singh Salh by a margin of just twenty two votes. Harikay secured 820 votes of the total of 2098 votes cast for the post whereas Salh got 798 votes. Forty seven voters opted for NOTA.
Talking to TOI, Ghuman, who was president in 2007-08, 2008-09 to 2009-10 and 2013-14, said that he is happy to win the election and will work for the betterment of
DBA. He said his main agenda is to ensure the dignity of the bar members.
