Conor McGregor ‘attacks rival’ in New York

Mixed martial arts champion Conor McGregor is in custody after he allegedly attacked a rival following a Ultimate Fighting Championship media event at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

McGregor, 29, handed himself in at the New York Police Department’s 78th precinct, where is expected to be charged with assault, says NBC News.

Along with a group of up to ten men, McGregor was repotedly let into the building through a side entrance by journalists from McGregor's website, The Mac Life.

According to ESPN, the group then “ran into the arena's loading dock and began hurling objects at a bus” carrying Russian lightweight contender Khabib Nurmagomedov and a number of other fighters, before running from the scene.

Nurmagomedov is scheduled to fight Max Holloway for McGregor’s lightweight belt, which was vacated by the UFC after he failed to defend it.

Video footage published by TMZ Sports appears to show McGregor throwing a trolley through a window of the bus, injuring fighter Michael Chiesa, who was reportedly treated for cuts to his face.

Other objects, including rubbish bins and a bike rack, were also thrown at the bus, in what UFC president Dana White called “the most disgusting thing that has happened in the history of the company”.
